History of Dusty Heights

Dusty Heights was founded in 1823 by settlers from northern Georgia, who were drawn to the quiet hills and fertile soil along the border. The first schoolhouse opened in 1859, and by 1870 the town had established a small railway station that connected it to neighboring villages. Dusty Heights was quickly revolutionized by the arrival of electric street lamps in 1883, making it one of the first towns in the region to be lit at night. Soon after, the first telephones were installed, allowing residents to communicate instantly across town.

The Dusty Heights Deer, the town’s little league baseball team, has long enjoyed a rivalry with the neighboring Sandy Bottoms Snakes. The feud began in 1967 when a championship game ended in a disputed call at second base, leaving the Snakes convinced the Deer had cheated. Ever since, every matchup between the two teams has drawn local crowds. Despite the competitive spirit, players from both towns often practice together during the off-season, and many lifelong friendships have grown out of the rivalry.
